This page gives an estimate only. Real traffic, weather, roadworks, and other factors can change the total time. The tool does not read live traffic. Use the result as a guide, not an exact promise.

Why estimate travel time this way

Dividing distance by average speed gives a baseline before you layer in congestion or sightseeing. Optional stops and departure time help turn that baseline into a rough schedule, still without live traffic data.

Formula

Driving time in hours equals distance divided by speed, when units match:

t = d ÷ s

Total trip time is driving time plus any stop hours and minutes you enter. It is still a model: your real average speed may differ.

t
Driving time in hours (decimal), before optional stops.
d
Distance (kilometres with km/h, or miles with mph).
s
Average speed in the same system (km/h or mph).

Example

If you cover 240 km at an average of 80 km/h, driving time is 240 ÷ 80 = 3 hours. With 30 minutes of stops, the total is 3 h 30 min. In miles and mph, 150 miles at 50 mph is three hours of driving before stops.

Limits of a simple model

The calculator does not read live traffic or forecasts. Treat the arrival line as a paper schedule: useful for orientation, not a guarantee. Long trips crossing time zones need your own offset logic.

Frequently asked questions

Which fields are required?

Only distance and average speed are required to get driving time. Stop time and departure time are optional: use them when you want a total duration or a rough arrival clock.

Why is my actual drive longer than the calculator?

Because the tool uses one average speed. Rush hour, lower limits, hills, and detours lower your real average even if you sometimes go faster than the limit.

How should I use stops and departure time?

Enter the stop hours and minutes you expect (fuel, food, rest). If you also set a departure time, we add total trip time to that clock to suggest an arrival time. Leave them at zero or blank if you only want pure driving time.

Can I mix units, for example miles with km/h?

Not in this form. Keep distance and speed in the same system: kilometres with km/h, or miles with mph. Convert first if your notes use mixed units.
